Remembering those who serve

I tease a lot about moving to the country but it's really a nice place to call home. Take this event on Sunday evening....the local volunteer fire department has an open house and blood drive in memory of 9/11. The blood mobile had more donors than they could handle and our friends and neighbors enjoyed a bluegrass band and hot dogs. I know a lot of city folk might not think this sounds fun but it was. And gave us a chance to Thank our local (all volunteer) group of firefighters that stand ready to serve us whenever the call might come.

I love this, and you're right; we need to remember (and thank) all those who so selflessly serve others at a moment's notice.

It sounds like great fun to me. I remember the local volunteer fire department was a fun place to hang out in our neck of the woods growing up. Always a great group of folks with the community well being at heart.
